Namoboudha is situated at the top of Panauti, which is considered as an important Buddhist pilgrimage located in Kavre District almost 38 kms. east of Kathmandu city. The Stupas and Shrines built in this little town has significantly marked the ancient holy site where a legendary prince named Mahasttva offered himself to starving Tigress with its several underfed cubs. This legendary episode is depicted in a very nice stone slab and placed right next to a holy Stupa.
First, you drive 35 km east of Kathmandu for about one and half hours to a place called Dhapasi via an ancient town Panauti. From Dhapasi you follow the uphill trail towards north - east direction’ The trail trail narrows and you cross a suspension bridge and pass through many small villages to a huge rice field which gives you chance to see the locals plant and harvest. From there you hike uphill for about an hour to reach Namoboudha. You continue walking the easy trails to Dhulikhel and drive back to Kathmandu.
